Mossley were brought down to earth with a bump to crash out of this season's FA Cup at Northern Counties East League side Armthorpe in this wet squib of game.

Armthorpe were no great shakes but Mossley aided them in looking good with a totally inept performance. Laboured and often inaccurate passing, poor movement, little tackling, sloppy defending and even less cohesion as opposed to Armthorpe's simple and accurate passing, good movement, vigorous tackling, strong defending and excellent cohesion.

The minnows deserved their victory on a day Mossley will quickly want to forget.

The home side took the lead with their first pressure of the game when Lewis Buckthorpe scored after Lee Bracey had parried Hildred's shot into his path.

Mossley tried to push forward but the final ball into the box was less than well delivered and home keeper Brett Chittock was hardly troubled as Denney fired over, Giggs and Downey turned near post efforts narrowly wide and Chittock comfortably tipped over Knight's looping header.

The second half saw Mossley press for the equalizer but when a move broke down in midfield Armthorpe had acres of room to pass the ball around the Mossley defence for Giovanni Carchedi to score a well taken goal in the 60th minute. Mossley pressed forward again and finally halved the arrears when Morning's left wing cross was only partially cleared and Chris Downey curled a fine shot beyond Chittock and into the top corner.

Giggs hit the post, Chittock saved brilliantly to deny Vernon and Denney but Mossley now with three at the back were wide open to the counter attack and that proved decisive as Carchedi raced through a gap to roll the ball past Bracey and complete Armthorpe's 'giant killing' with just three minutes remaining.
